Humans Of Sudo

Welcome back to the Humans of Sudo series, where we spotlight the unique experiences and perspectives of the incredible individuals driving our success.

Today, we're excited to introduce you to Abiola Fajingbesi, our Acting Head of Admin and Personnel (aka Head of People) who has been at sudo for 2years, 8Months

If you could swap jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?

The CEO or COO hands down! I mean, who wouldn’t want to be the one calling the shots? Just imagine the freedom of deciding we all work from home for a week, ordering free lunches for everyone, or, better yet, organising a company retreat abroad to unwind! With great power comes great...vacation plans, Abi?

What's one quirky or unusual skill that you have that no one at work knows about?

I don’t know if it counts as a skill, but I have an uncanny ability to remember faces and voices, even if I’ve only met someone once. It’s like having a built-in facial recognition system…people can’t hide from me!

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen or heard in an interview (without naming names)?

Oh, where do I start? Recently, I interviewed someone who was just giving off weird vibes. I asked them to turn on their camera at least for a bit, but they came up with every excuse in the book! I started wondering if they were, you know, a bit too seasoned for the role since it was a sales position. They kept saying their camera was broken, and I couldn’t help but think, ‘Maybe this person’s sitting under a tree somewhere outside Lagos!’ And don’t even get me started on the people who send an email saying, ‘I accept the offer,’ without so much as a ‘Hi’ - just straight to attaching the offer letter. My boss had to ask, ‘WHO IS THIS PERSON?’ Needless to say, they lost the opportunity. Pro tip: Email etiquette matters!

If our company had a ‘Sudo’s Got Talent’ show, what would your performance be?

Cooking, definitely! Trust me, you do not want to see me try to dance or sing ahhh… it’s a danger to society!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received that you apply to your work at Sudo?

It’s not the best advice ever, but it’s definitely practical: Take things one day at a time, and always get approval before making decisions. Oh, and remember, not everyone will like you, especially in HR, there’s this weird idea that HR folks aren’t friendly. But because I’m naturally a people person, I try to balance fun HR, strict HR, and serious HR. Still, the job comes first, so my advice to everyone is: Do your job well, even if you’re not the most popular. Eventually, the people you’re trying to impress will come around.

Stay tuned. Who will be in the spotlight next? Till next time!
